Nepal

The Nepal Global Mosaic was an immersive ethnographic field research program.

My time in Nepal encouraged me to ask questions and learn from personal stories.

It inspired me to improve social and environmental systems at the community level.

Nepal

Phase 1: Field Research

In Fall 2017, I took four classes which framed a research project in Nepal to explore climate change and security. Students from Dickinson College designed a research methodology. In collaboration with the Institute for Crisis Management Studies, research teams interviewed villagers, NGO leaders and policy-makers in communities in Nepal. Dickinson students wrote ethnographic case studies as a final project.

Phase 2: Migration Report

Field research in Nepal left unanswered questions about the impacts and causes of migration. In Winter 2017-18, I wrote a case study based on findings from Nepal. I worked closely with an advisor to frame economic theories, international trends and community networks, supported by interview evidence.

Phase 3: Communications  Strategy

Research should have an impact. So, I designed a policy brief based on our findings from Nepal. I made two versions - one for policy-makers and one for local organizations.

Phase 4: Final Report

In Spring 2018, I worked closely with an advisor to design a framework for our findings with systems thinking. I identified case studies that evaluated community collaboration, information sharing, and resilience.

Phase 5: Collaborative Enterprise

In Spring 2018, a professor selected me to contribute to an organizational theory model using the Nepal research as a case study. I interviewed key faculty participants in the program. I also studied experiential learning theory and innovated a method for studying student learning goals.

Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia

A Global Economy lesson inspired me to explore the intersections of water, food and rights.

This project encouraged me to investigate power structures in environmental issues.

It connected trends I studied in International Relations with global sustainability.

Independent Research

The largest dairy producing company in Saudi Arabia purchased agricultural land in the American southwest. In Fall 2016, I investigated the motivations behind this decision in an independent research project.

I compared global alfalfa prices, delved into the monarchy's corporate shares and evaluated American water rights systems.

Central Asia

Central Asia

A childhood trip to Kyrgyzstan inspired me to deeply explore the Central Asian region.

Over my college career, I wrote several research papers on water and politics. â€‹

These projects inspired me to explore issues related to transboundary watersheds.

Coursework

I wrote an analytical paper on political balancing in Central Asia. Then, I designed a policy brief on U.S. interests in the region.

I also wrote a couple papers on environmental politics and water conflict in Central Asia.
